ROCK & ROLL
A mixture of Country and Blues.
The Blues came from black players with just a guitar playing for change thrown into their hat on a street corner or playing a party for food, a place to stay the night and a few drinks. It also was part of the repertoire of early Jazz bands. The country was Bluegrass appalachian mountains music and some blues mixed from hearing Jazz and street corner black players.
THE FIRST ROCK RECORD
It happened in 1951. The singer guitarist is Ike Turner but he was signed to another label and needed the money. Keep in mind these guys got paid a flat rate and signed away any royalties. It was a take it or leave deal.
Rock and R&B music was primarily regional. What got recorded in one state may not even be heard in another. Radio stations were mostly independent and their programs were aimed at the local people and local musicians and entertainers were a very big part of the mix. It only gradually changed in the 60's but by the 70's things had gone from a State to the whole planet.
