Albert Kaseledar was both the designer and builder for 8 years of all the Hofner pedals.
Anything made by Hofner when it is made in Germany is old school. Quality rules they ignore price :-)
So ol' Al took the classic silicon Fuzz Face to a whole new level. I have the MXR Classic 108 version. I pretty much only use if stacked on an OD so designing the OD part built right in to the pedal is definitely a good idea.
The pedal has the usual gain and level but the 'beard' control tighten up the low end and gives the pedal that tight control of an OD and tames the unruliness that many basic Fuzz pedals have.
CONCLUSION
Pricey but it uses NOS transistors and the remainder of the pedal in and out is very high spec. That said the MXR gets you in the door quite nicely for $100.00 USD.
