OVERDRIVE- JET PEDALS Mr. JAX ...Crowther Hotcake 'plus' ???

  JET PEDALS

   MR JAX

$230.00 USD
In 1976 Paul Crowther of Brit band Split Enz wanted a transparent OD. In '76 nothing existed. In fact the term 'transparent' and OD were an oxymoron. So he made his own. By today's standards it is hardly transparent but it was 'the' pedal to get if you were 'cool'.
On returning to his native country New Zealand he set about setting up shop to make them. Perhaps the world's first gourmet pedal is his Crowther Hot Cake. He still makes them and clones have come and gone over the years.
Chris Rochs an award winning producer and Gretsch endorsee/spokesman has used the Hot Cake for decades and teamed up with Jet Pedals to produce a signature pedal based on the Hot Cake. The Mr. Jax.
The layout is a simple level, ain and tone. If you hold down the footswitch it changes the LED thru the colors white, blue and purple. Each stage boost the ain to another level.
CONCLUSION
It sounds ??? Fine??? An old school OpAmp hardclipper not so unlike a Boss SD-1.
It is like all early dirt pedals they sound cool because they sound cool. The thinking was a Fuzz is a Fuzz not an amp pushed into distortion so an OD is an OD nothing more. If you did not like a Crowther than buy a Boss etc.
The bottom line is do you like it? For a start the Caline Osium is the same kind of pedal. At $35.00 USD it is worth comparing. I see it as they are both apples, do you like the red one or prefer the tart taste of the green.
