COMPRESSOR- SOURCE AUDIO Atlas Compressor ___NEW___ LA2A & Urei 1176 cloned

SOURCE AUDIO
ATLAS
COMPRESSOR
$225.00 USD
If you are appropriately nerdy enough you know about these 2 classic old
studio rack comps. In my game as the 'need to know' guy of SBS I know about both. But in the real world where we all really live all you need to know is the stupidly popular $360.00 USD Origin Cali76 is that same Urei. That said Kelley who has made and still offers an old style studio comp can not sell squat. It turns out we all still love the MXR Dyna comp but just want it free of it's few nasties. His $150.00 USD Keeley Compressor + is the cutting edge of that.
There is an endless list of needless options you can download into it.
It has the usual threshold, ratio, output and now inevitable 'blend' of your dry and compressed signal that Keeley put it on the map. You get a switch to choose which comp and you can blend both.
CONCLUSION
Compressors in spite of the bull about how transparent one is over the other have a 'sound'. The Keeley does not pretend not to and it sounds killer :-)
Some of the best on paper sound like crap. Some actually thin out your sound and all are transparent enough to not be able to tell much of this from a damn video. Things like the tone and vibe of the thing.
I find the Atlas thin but it does capture the extra long sustain of those old studio comps.
At the moment if I wanted to buy something fresh I would go for the Carl Martin Honey-Comp. Ol' Carls Comps were the go to for everyone that mattered 10 years ago and many still either use theirs or buy one because they do the job, and best of all they simply sound really good. At $200.00 USD worth a thought.
