The first Replica was indeed a real tape echo and you can still buy it for $650. 

It sounds cool but I wouldn't want to take it to a gig. Much to delicate, so to speak, lol.

Soon as I heard this new one I had a WTF moment. My first delay was a real Echo-Plex I bought used in the late 60's. 

It was not the one all the fuss is made about the preamp in it because 

mine was the very original all tube one.

This damn pedal sounds just like it. The first of this digital version used the chips of the day but they were updated in every new version. This newest one still uses digital to voice the sound but analog is used for both the input and output. You get the detail of the digital to perfectly emulate the voicing but the analog puts all the warmth and fullness that tape has back into the sound.

You get the basic controls including tap tempo and note value repeat timing. Included is input and output gain which is a very big part of deceiving your ear that you are hearing a real tape echo tone.

CONCLUSION

This is really about the use of delay when it was really used like a reverb with a massive sound behind you guitar sound. It is for the guy with the right guitar amp set up wanting to take his solos and riffs to the next level. I love the damn thing. Total killer!!!
