The Father of the British Blues Generation ...Clapton, Peter Green & Mick Taylor has died

JOHN MAYALL 1933-2024 ...died at 90

London UK had a small Blues scene in the 60's. Most notable was John Mayall and his Blues Breakers band. When Eric Clapton joined it a the Rock guitar sound they used changed literally overnight.
Graffiti in London's West End was plastered with the slogan Clapton is god! Until Clapton everyone played clean amps at low volumes. No one bent notes or used string vibrato done with just your fingers.
Clapton left and was followed by Peter Green then he was followed by Mick Taylor. Guests like Gary Moore were frequent.
He slowed down in his mid 80's but he constantly
toured the globe his whole life. Even then he
did gigs with current players like Joe Bonamassa.

In 1965 I was in Terraplane a Chicago Blues style Blues band. We played all the greats from Muddy Waters and guys like like Buddy Guy who went on to be a Star on his own. BB King of course and like Clapton, we played Freddy King. In 1966 I got a freshly arrived Brit import record. Yes I got the Beano album.
I was amazed to hear a Brit play the same tunes I was playing.
Even more amazed he did so until he was 90.

He died peacefully in his California home.
