J. Mascis BIG MUFF
E-H in the early days were like most makers. They went crazy about the price of parts and their availability. They kept mostly to the topography of a winner but if brand X had a sale on transistors it would replace brand Y. Or indeed a Fuzz could have both Y and Z in the same unit.J. Maris used a Muff for his always on pedal. He collected many Muffs he found used for really cheap prices and sold off most but kept ones that had a little extra balz, depth or very that very important string definition. His favorite was a particular 73 Rams Head. The goal was to clone it but with parts and a build that made it both reliable and consistent.
CONCLUSION ___
Well I do not hear a serious difference. I know that the standard
one when not kept out of the range of the pedal self oscillating gives you a very good near Overdrive Dave Gilmour sound.
This new one is all about being dimed. In any case a high
gain Fuzz that honks like a goose needs a gate.
the fine print
The FZ-7 is very under-rated, the one i have sounds more like a distortion than a muff, and for that reason it's stands on its own for maybe the best 'budget fuzz/distortion' chinese made pedals on the ever so over-saturated market of clone pedals.

Good morning Garry 😎____10 years ago Biyang had a very good site. I could send an E and get a lengthy answer to any question. The company was a family business. They were all very obsessed with pleasing you. The FZ-7 was a very early product and it has remained unchanged all this time. WANG is a second branch of the company that make handmade tube amps. They gave me me the impression that both quality and more important integrity were more important than profitability.
