So Paul Cochran who is player and an Engineer decided that a Tube Screamer was a great pedal BUT not good enough so he built a better one.
The problem for the player is it is hard to get one.
Why? Good ol' Paul is a man of values. Things like family first, integrity, do not over charge for a pedal ...and 'one thing' in life is not everything. So if you can be a pro engineer support your family and enjoy the job too. Go for it.
He has always had these values so after hundreds of letters every day asking when or where can they get one he came up with a solution. He licensed it to give him control over quality and price.

BUT the guy is for real in a time when those in high places give the world the finger
to their fellow man about such valueless things as integrity.
SO if you want one get the new MXR and then send off an E and thank the guy.
