NUX| CLASSIC DISTORTION
The NUX catalogue for Western consumption is huge so rather than discontinue products they just keep selling them in the Asian markets both as is or with a different paint job and with Twinote stamped on the box. Often the Twinote version is much cheaper but for now not with this pedal. It is a clone of the 1978 Boss DS-1 Distortion. the first stab of a Brit sound, ever. You get a simple 3 knob volume, tone and gain layout.
CONCLUSION
I had the original. What I didn't like is that it had no serious sustain at unity gain. Yes it is popular to use as a boost but once you have several drives on
a board you don't want them being at all different levels if you are going from one to another in the same tune. They are good for rhythm parts as it makes them tight and they stack really well. Oddly the NUX is fatter than the Boss. Impressive.
So... all things considered not a bad pedal to have in your tool box.
Hello Paul
ReplyDeleteI just bought the Twinote Wax Distortion, which is the same pedal on Aliexpress for $28
I started this review by doing the Wax and changed my mind. For one thing the price difference is small. Nux is well known so if want to sell you can probably get $35 for it and have had the use for free. Years back when Twinote was new I got one and it was fine but had really wobbly pots. They were not lose just crap pots. The circuit board was a NUX so the sound was untouched but eventually those knobs would go. They may now have sorted that out but??? It would not be cool to recommend the brand. When you buy a Mooer clone the only difference is the paint color and the graphics. So I was surprised NUX dropped the ball.
