OVERDRIVE- JOYO Zip Amp. ...low to medium gain with a mellow atmospheric sound

$50.00 USD
 JOYO ZIP AMP
I am sure this is some kind of clone though a few
times Joyo has done something that sounded quite good that missed the bullseye but hit the bullseye on a target they were not even aiming at and came up with good sounding original pedal. LOL

So in spite of a clever name the pedal is low to medium gain OD with a switch to bring in some more saturation. The tone is somewhat transparent.

The low gain is very effective. It sounds
more Tube Screamer whether that is because they are using FETS or are clipping the signal by starting with an asymmetrical voicing I do not know.
The ts uses symmetrical clipping which is not at all tube like but keeps the signal transparent. Pushed the pedal
gives you a near Marshall like tone
but it has no grit or balz.

CONCLUSION
Joyo pedals have good rep of being well made and dependable. They are now using a steel casing like a Fulltone pedal. Add to this they have always been less then $50.00 USD.
The pedals is new. I expect it could go as low as $35.00 USD within a year or so.

It has a very pleasing mellow sound. It could be great on tunes where you would
typically performed them clean. The more overdriven sounds may work well
for ambient moods especially teamed up with may of the new ambient reverb pedals.
If you are a song writer this could be inspiring. Some Fusion players may find it excellent
for some of their mellow things with it's esoteric vibe.
Having some experience with the KOT although this not the same it has a texture that would
work well as a substitution.
I since learnt that a few guys think it is the Xotic BB preamp. I tried one of those and thought it was harsh and this pedal ain't harsh!
