This pedal is an alternative to a Tube Screamer so you need your amp set to crunch or very near crunch. With the boost at post gain the standard FET/tube sound for smooth and creamy classic tube sounds but you can switch it to a much rougher tone by putting the boost before it. There is a knob that you can move between Germanium or Silicon diodes or blend the two. Germanium again adds more of that aggressive rasp. A knob labeled body fattens up the mids There is a gain control but it is set from inside the box..I really love the sound of it but I run my amp clean. It may stack well so you could use it to drive a light gain or medium gain OD.
