FENDER CUSTOM COLORS from the 50's & the 60's

 FENDER CUSTOM COLORS
SHELL PINK

Fender brought out their guitars in Custom colors in the mid 50's but they were kind of randomly released  there was no consistency or plan. It was more of a case of a Fender salesman offering this or that to a store when taking an order.Custom colors were often used over the top of botched sunburst paint jobs as it is much easier to paint over them than fix them. A light hand sanding that took someone a half hour and back into the paint shop. lol
In short if you walked into a shop that sold Fenders and saw a custom color you grabbed it or you went without.
In 1960 they published a chart that you could order whatever you liked. Wouldn't that be heaven if they brought that back!
MOD SHOP
Fender has just started a new line where you can have many different options. One is a choice of 31 different colors.

It is not hard to see that these are automotive colors. What many do not know they actually used Dupont automobile paint ...not old style lacquers tinted to look like these colors. In short what you see is what you got.
The very first custom color Fender ever did was Fiesta Red which is a 1956 Ford Thunderbird color.

A one off or even a bad
 color match of Shell Pink
No big deal ...as some store would buy it
for a window display.
very rare
