HENDRIX LIVE ... MOMENTS OF PLACIDITY FROM A SIMPLE TUNE

SPONTANEOUS YET NEVER WANDERING,
 LOSING DIRECTION OR PURPOSE
These days we get a guy throwing every last shredding thing he knows in a tune.
About 3 tunes later it all starts to sound the same. When we leave we can
not remember a single riff, a phrase or a tiny bit of melody that created
the substance to imprint us with an emotional experience to hang onto.
It becomes nothing but a mountain of burnt ashes blown away by the wind.

  1. in my irrelevant opinion he became a brand, fabricated by the music business. And it ate him up in the end. I am still undecided if he is overrated or not. for sure he pushed the limits of how to use the electric guitar, but he is not the only one.

  2. It would be impossible to overrate Hendrix. Period.

  3. Without Hendrix we would all be playing surf music. No Hendrix, no EVH ..etc, etc, etc When Clapton and Townsend went together to a club to see some new guy called Hendrix. Clapton turned to Townsend after just one tune and said "This changes EVERYTHING!!!!". They were 110% correct.

  4. I saw Hendrix twice and got a chance to joke around with him on his own for 10 minutes the second time. He loves playing for people and putting on a show but once off stage he is shy and prefers that you do all the talking. He gets intimidated by others that put on a celebrity facade.
