movallGALATIC GROOVEFUZZY DRIVEThis is Movall's take on a E.W.S. Fuzzy Drive. Both are loosely basedon a Tone Bender. The layout is a simple Volume, Tone and Gain.It has a very Tone Bender sound, fat, gritty, raspy and openbut with more cut.
CONCLUSION___It is very, very close to sounding like the Japanese E.W.S.They both aim for a Tone Bender v.2 vibe. Neither usegermanium transistors but Silicon. They are not Fuzz Facevariations either. The bottom line is it sounds very, very good and withoutthe headaches of using germanium transistors. Mostalternatives are between $80 and $150. The dead serious60's re-pros up to as high as $600. To rent a pedal for aweekend is $15 to about $30. So think of this as rentalthat you are allowed to forget to return, LOL.
I ordered one & it arrived today.Using it on it's own it was OK but a bit disappointing.EXTRA BIG BUT!!! ..using it stacked on a MIABI instantly got classic sounds that wehave all heard on a hundred killer records. It took those MIAB pedals to an entirelydifferent level!!!
...a total gotta have!!
The Real Deal for Comparison
Is it based on the EHX Big Muff Op-amp or EWS Fuzzy drive?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the EWS ....2 reasons ..it does sound like it. It does not require a lot of parts. Movall focus on giving you a great sound cheap. If a pedal needed a lot of parts and sells cheap it would have to be dumped down. I am sure a few pedals that would have been cool to make did not because Movall wants a rep of great sounding pedals. They only have 6 pedals in the new B size enclosures and I find it odd that 2 are Fuzz pedals. I think it is because they new that they could do a great job and still keep it under budget.
ReplyDeleteDoes the other new Movall Fuzz sound good?
ReplyDeleteThere Is also a compressor in the line. It is supposed to be a Pale Green Compressor clone
