Line 6 is a pioneer of modeling so this is one of the very first modeled delays. It mimicked classic analog delays, tape echo's, modulation delays and created the first ambience delays. Being digital the spec on it's chips are very dated. The DL4 has been surpassed in specs even by Line 6 on other products they have made and discontinued for better tech. Line 6 wisely kept making the DL4 without updating it or making true v. 2.
It still shows up on new recordings every day. It has a certain Lo Fi quality that is magic. It's modeling of other pedals is more impressionistic than accurate to the sounds it tries to clone.
I feel it will soon disappear since LINE 6 is know ironically modeling their own modeler. Add to that new modern tech can not only do that but do it much cheaper than manufacturing 20 year old technology. So in short now is the time to buy one.
