OVERDRIVE-SINVERTEK M5+ ...state of the art designs! but do they sound good?

 SINVERTEK M5+
Origin Effects started all this overkill with their Revival Drive and the Revival drive Compact. Take everything that happens as the signal of a tube/valve amp passes thru the amp from the input jack to the speakers cone and put in a small box with nothing but the actual tubes being replaced with FET transistors.
Then give you 64 knobs a 26 1/2 switches so you can dial in your own sound.
The problem from the get go is no matter how good the design is once the signal has gone thru Brand A's transistor instead of Brand 'M's or the reverse ....both being equally state of the art it may not even sound better than a mini OD made in China for $20.00.

I for one have bought pedals in the past that were not user friendly and spent hours and hours to get a great sound only to find a 3 knob OD sounded better. In short with all the knobs set to 'noon' on a pedal and you get a shot of adrenaline hitting the first few chords you have a winner!!!
There is one thing that  thing that designers can not overlook. Players have got their impression of a great sound by listening recordings where the guitars, amps, speaker cabs, microphones, recording board outboard compressors, EQ's etc, etc, etc, all are part of the sound.
The winners of the best OD are the guys that can balance that recorded use of  technology with art. They must create a very good impression of what we have heard and then exaggerate just enough to give us the emotional impression that this is 'IT" the sacred sound we have been looking for.
The best pedals are made by the intuitive designers that follow their gut reaction.

$210.00 USD

CONCLUSION
Well if what you hear is what you love you will be happy because you can remove that one freckle and two warts from it to be perfect. But that 3 knob budget pedal can sound better ...warts and all.
The reason I use 20 OD's is because they all do one exclusive thing perfect ...that one thing is different with each pedal. BUT it is still one thing!
They are like kitchen knives ...a bread knife can not sub for a meat cleaver!
Kudos to Sinvertek in keeping the price under the magic $225.00 USD. Yes guys that do the  marketing  say a price more than that and sales are miniscule for most makers.

FINAL WORD
There is not one perfect pedal unless you are creating music within a very strict format and then it is the worst pedal for another format!!!
But all that aside this is a great sounding pedal from the get go.
Add to that it reasonably priced for what you get.
It is not a warm sound and there are many small artifacts in real tube distortion that
have been lint picked away. It does not make it a bad pedal in any way. If it was anything else than what it is I could be bitching it was a bit muddy or didn't have enough articulation. LOL
