Joe Morgan has been making amps for over 20 years and pedals for nearly as long. He 'knows' what makes great sound! He only makes one OD and it would not occur to him to not make it 'truly transparent'
99% of all 'so called' transparent OD are ABSOLUTELY not transparent. First they nearly all start with a Tube Screamer circuits using the same type of Op Amp.
Op Amps can not follow your playing dynamics. If you strike your strings hard gradually playing softer you may hear some small change in how your amp goes from loud to quiet but the ratio of difference will be cut in half or worse. If you could see a visual image of the sound of your guitar signal going into other pedals what comes out the other end would be drastically changed. So the Morgan OD does only one thing. It increases the gain.
All I care about in a low gain OD is a nice tone. I gave up.
I either use a medium gain OD turned down or go straight into the amp clean!
I find the gain too harsh in the Morgan.
The only thing that pleases me is to use a semi acoustic on tunes that demand
a clean sound.
