According to Dave Barber (Barber Electronics) the lows on the Origin 20 and Origin 50 are effected by using a microfarad 1 on the first cathode if you change it to a 10 or bit higher you get that 68 JMP 50 Plexi sound.

Did this mod just now. Jury is still out.
ReplyDeleteHow did it sound? Any difference?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post!
ReplyDeleteTried fiddling with different values on the aforementioned cap.
The Origin 50's 1nf cap on the first cathode is indeed a very small value compared to jtm and jmp 50watt circuits. So I settled on a 320uf cap. The sound is certainly fuller than before and it doesn't cut the bass from pedals such as the big muff, fuzz face etc. (I always though it restricted them ), plus when it goes into overdrive the sound is fuller. It didn't change the sound of the amp completely (I didn't expect it to in the first place ) but it lets more bass into the circuit and ups the gain a little bit, which in my opinion is an improvement. The downside is that the cleans are not as "sparkly" as before, since more bass frequencies enter the circuit now, but for me that's not a problem.
Cheers
Hello, where is the resistance to change? THANKS !
ReplyDeleteHello, I’m a “gainiac” lol so when my son sold me his origin 50 combo I was a little skeptical about using it for my kind of music.Pantera, classic Metallica and Ola Englund. I am using a ultra metal for my gain.In front of that is a Demon fx 66 pedal and after the ultra I have a joyo 6 band followed by a Irwin 10 band followed up with a noise gate. I have gotten some really good “chugs” going but I would like to tighten up the low end. I have spoken with an amp modding company and they want $300 bucks plus shipping to mod it!! That’s going to be well over the $300!! I’m thinking of buying a 5150 overdrive to tighten it up. For one very simple reason: IF I were to decide to sell the amp, I’d have a lot better chance of selling something that hasn’t been modded or messed with. So my question is this: I’ve got more gain in tap but do you have any suggestions on how to tighten up the low end? Thx
