The BOSS SD-1 came out in 1978 and has been a bestseller since then. The idea from the beginning was a better Rat by combining  transistors to the Rat's OpAmp circuit. It was followed by the DS-2 

that added a fatter mid range. The OG-1 captures both.

The layout is Volume, Tone and Gain adding more gain with Clip 

then Bite & a mids control for the DS-2 like thing. A toggle gives 

you more highs or a unique low sound turns it into a modern High 

Gain Metal pedal.

__ CONCLUSION __

It covers a lot of ground tackling 4 different pedals and 

not dropping the ball on any of them. It is at its best 

when centered around its added modern 

Metal capability's. What's not to like!!!
