Today is release day. Months ago I did a preview of this pedal.
So today it is in the stores and we have a price.
Back in the primordial pedal age a guy named Susuma Tumara invented an OD pedal for Maxon made using an OpAmp.This was a new idea. Before it came out Boss brought the DS-1 and they wisely got a patent. The big difference was the Boss used asymmetrical distortion so ol' S.T. thought why not use symmetrical distortion.
Well the story gets if nothing else 'busy' ...so to cut to the chase.
Mr. Sussuma Tumara had invented the Tube Screamer. The most popular OD ever made and the biggest selling one.

Four years ago he collected one of every production run of the original 808 and found small variables in the parts.
Some made zero difference to the sound but one had just a single part that DID. So he sourced the original NOS of parts and the Maxon APEX 808 was born. Maxon found enough parts for a few thousand.
Keep in mind companies like Mooer that produce budget pedals make them in batches of 2000. No sh@t they actually do. It is a world wide biz. Players from kids to pensioners buy pedals!!! The point is with NOS parts these pedals could run out fast.
Well if you want a REAL 808 this is it!! Period!
It is a perfect part for part clone of the best of the best! It will also not be around for long.
