OVERDRIVE- BOSS DS-1W WAZA CRAFT Distortion ____NEW ____ the next big deal? :-(

 BOSS DS-1w WAZA CRAFT DISTORTION
$170.00 USD
In '78 this was Boss's new 'big deal' Distortion. At the time I worked at a small Pro Shop and most guys were buying MXR and for budget guys a few Ross were sold. I was disappointed. I found that the pedal was nasal, thin. buzzy and had no balz.
I had a HIWATT half stack and a Big Muff Rams Head. The only piece of gear that fascinated me were the MESA Boogies we sold :-) The only buzz back then about a cool Distortion was a pedal that also just came out ..the Rat!!!
So the WAZA is in its standard mode it is pretty much 'same old'. You can switch it to the Custom setting the voicing has some good lows a better harmonics. It has bit of a Marshall JCM 800 vibe.
The layout is simple with volume, gain and tone with a switch to select the standard or custom voice.
CONCLUSION
When it was new it was meant to make you feel you had a MIAB. These days we have a killer selection of MIAB pedals. In short remove the contrived 'cool' factor and the nostalgia and what you get now is a mediocre Distortion pedal. Boss should have
brought out the FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz. If you want to try out a DS-1 just buy a used
standard model. I bought one in 2015 just for fun. Mint $35.00
Does it sound terrible? No...but if you want a Boss high gain pedal get the
Boss ST-1 Power Stack. A MIAB...and a damn good one.
