PROCESSOR- BBE MS-92 Sonic Stomp ... a second look

BBE MS-92 SONIC STOMP
$100.00 USD
In the early days of speaker tech it was soon found that a basic speaker lacked any serious lows or high end.
The lows for a start could be improved with making larger speakers the highs however needed to take the speakers driver and not have it pushing a paper cone but put through a narrow steel horn letting the acoustics of that horn do the work. It was soon found that if nothing else the placement of the the various components did not necessarily reach your ears at the same time if they were not adjusted to be closer or further away from each other in an enclosure. Today both hightech electronics and better speaker and horns etc. have solved many of the problems.
So what has this got to do with the BBE. Well back in the 80's the folks at BBE used this old problem as an asset. They found you could create more clarity with analog tape recording by not increasing the highs in level but simple getting them to yours ears in advance of the mids and lows. A few years later they came up with the idea of making a pedal to use this for guitar. This led to many versions and finally to a mini pedal. BBE made other specialty effects and conventional pedals. Unfortunately do to an endless stream of bad management and
new owners their product has been constantly unavailable than available again for
even a few years at a time.
CONCLUSION
Lovers of it call it the poor man's Dumble. Used sparingly it indeed can add clarity to your board. I have had mine for years as an always on pedal. The bass is a bit heavy. I just leave it at unity gain at 12 o'clock and push the highs to 1. The pedal soon seems to be unnesesseasay, until you turn it off, lol.
