Nocturne is all about the little stuff. If you stick straight to the Tune Screamer world of OD's you will always have a familiar popular sound when it comes to a transparent low to medium gain pedal. In the world of Americana of Blues early Country and mix of of folk and even Rockabilly an old Gretsch, vintage Fender 

or a semi, or hollow body guitar going thru an amp you never heard of from a garage sale can be that perfect combination. When it comes to an OD you will want something that just adds that right touch of spice to your sound without taking over. Nocturne is all about and only about this. Only recently have they grown tall enough to poke their head up high enough to get caught by the radar.

CONCLUSION

Even if you lean on a lot of heavy dirt you end up needing a bit of clean sound here and there. The problem is dead clean just never does it. Most clean amps sounds are thin sounding where the notes choke off before you finish that 

hammer on or use a bit of string vibrato or exaggerate the inevitable feather buzz into an annoying rattle.

If you have a style that uses strumming or flatpicking even this years hot big name OD solution 

can turn your sound to mush. Unfortunately there is not one definite choice for every player. 

Your amp, guitar and indeed your personal style and technique are simply too
