I still like the 59 better. Seagorn is the man.
ReplyDeleteIn 71 I had jumped the big pond and moved London UK where I played in the prog Rock band Tallis. Only enough money to buy something cheap. I was renting a 59 amp half stack. I saw a band at a local small club one night. The guitarist Ron had an even better sound than I had with his (model 1987) Marshall JMP50 and his Les Paul. It was loud but unlike the 59 it did not drown out the band. I told him I would buy one in a minute if I could find one for the $350.00 USD I had left for gear , LOL, LOL. To my surprise he told me to leave to him and he would find me an amp. When he said this I only just met him and that his name was Ron. He took off the big Fedora hat he had on and his sunglasses. It was a disguise. Ron was a Ron for sure. Better known as Ronnie Wood of the Stones, LOL. A week later I picked up the amp at Selmer Music. A store where Jazz players hung out the amp. I went in handed him my $350 American and left.
ReplyDeleteHell of a story!
ReplyDeleteMy go to rig know is a Friedman Pre IR-X. l only use the clean channel. I use 6 MIAB pedals to do all the Marshall things. I am missing a JMP50. Weehbo have made the hands down best JMP you can get. It has been out since 2008. The Weehbo JMP Drive. Made in Germany. It is $200.00 USD plus shipping and whatever duties. So a guess is I need $300. I should have the $ very soon. It is the only MIAB that when you back off the gain you get that perfect bell like chime from a Strat. You do not lose the balz or a good sustain. With any other pedal a Strat sounds about the same as a Burns PU. It has the same glassy sound (check out Brian May) but not that bell chime thing coming off your picks attack.. The Weehbo has the very best balz, and bite. I would say it growls. The sustain and harmonics just swell out of a power cord.
