The MXR Distortion Plus was the first OpAmp Distortion pedal. Before it nearly every guy would buy a Fuzz for his dirt. Usually by this time it was
a Big Muff. So in short Randy chose from what was available at the time.
I did the same thing. I even traded in my Muff to get it. It was not by a careful listen but simply wanting to be up to date with the best. In fact
on the whole I thought the Muff was better, LOL. ...It just wasn't cool
any more???
CONCLUSION__
This is more about collecting then playing. It only
shines if used as a boost for a high volume stack.
I expect using it stacked on a MIAB could be
very effective.
