The Tube Screamer circuit is the starting point for hundreds of pedals. 

It is genius in its simplicity and by changing and adding diodes you can make anything from a transparent Drive to a high Gain Drive. The layout 

is Volume, Tone and Gain. The Bass is a high pass filter cut to tighten. 

The mode choses your clipping diodes for more gain. The blend starts 

with full headroom as internally it runs on 18v.via a charge pump. Cranking it cuts the voltage for more dirt and saturation. 

            CONCLUSION ___ 

This is V.4 it is not so much a sound improvement 

but an improvement in ease to tweak your sound. 

It can give you very good transparent tones. 

Pushed it goes into higher gain. That said

pushed really hard it will muddy up. 

Regardless it has a excellent definition from low to 

mid gain sounds. It has a lot of warmth and

character and is very full sounding.

In fact enough to be its own thing. I love it!!!
