It is a Gibson Varitone-in-a-Box. A passive device that was

built into the Gibson ES 345 and 355 semi's in the 50's & 60's. The BB King model still gets sold with one. It has 5 notch 

filters and a bypass. To me that means 5 mid scoops.

            CONCLUSION __

I particularly love a huge sound on my Bridge PU, 

but that means when I switch to the neck PU that 

tone will be big time muddy. The Varitone can scoop the mud out of it. Best of all you do not have to 

carve up your guitar, or indeed you guitar collection. 

Add to that it is just like the Gibson. It is passive so 

it does not mess with your sound, with a battery or 

an adapter running a small preamp.

....unfortunately it could be but is not built into a mini pedal. It simply 

takes up a lot of real estate on your board and that isn't necessary.
