 DemonFX FILTRATION II
GString NOISE REDUCTION
First a quick lesson on how a noise gate works.
It is boring and dumb but read it anyway
This will sound weird but it is dead easy
way to understand.
$235.00 USD
Imagine you have a 2 stacked Fuzz pedals dimed but they are noise free (you wish, lol) Beside it you have a looper pedal that you recorded a loop of a vacuum cleaner motor. A gate listens to both and when your Fuzz is not loud enough to drown out the looper playing the vacuum cleaner it turns both pedals off. So you can see the problem ...it turns both off. If the gate is not good it turns both the Fuzz tail end and the noise off too soon or too late or at that point it flickers on and off because your Fuzz pedal signal starts to get just a hair louder and quieter as it fades away confusing the gate.

A Smart Gate pedal reads your input signal separate from the gated one and it will not let the gate try and turn on if your guitar strings are still ringing.

The difference for you to know choosing a gate pedal is the pedal will have 2 inputs and two outputs if it is a Smart Gate. if it is a Single End gate it looks like most of your pedals with just one in and one out. There are uses for Single End like you only play clean at low volumes and want to get rid of single coil hum.
The best studio gates have a lot of knobs like the REVV gate pedal. I have one but it is a pain. A gate must be set up even with one knob to fit the application. Two Fuzz pedals stacked need more reduction than a low gain Klon pedal. both make noise. Yes you could ignore using it on the Klon, but you won't, LOL. Once you have the luxury of dead quiet there is no going back, lol. I use 3 gates as always on pedals so they can be set right for the noise found in each which can be all different.

CONCLUSION __
The Demon is an ISP clone. ISP invented the Smart Gate pedal. My favorite gates are clones of the ISP so in theory it should be problem free.
But that said gates are not like amps. A ratty old Plexi sounds killer. You do not need a Dumble. A gate needs to be damn close to a Dumble to get past the smell test. Yes, I exaggerate but you get the point.

NOTE:  Videos are all but non existent. Add to that they are only any good if two gates
are compared for how smooth and quickly they gate.

CREATIVE USE OF GATES:
Yes you can do some cool things with one. You can deliberately make it come on a bit before the noise actually happens which tightens your sound. All gates have 'fade' function built in so if you do this your sound will not chop right off. Chopping right off is a very high gain Djent thing and you need a special gate to do this. The DemonFX is not one of those.
One thing to know is when early gating use your ear to set it carefully as their is always a 'sweet spot' that set too tight chokes your sound. Set right gives you a sound you hear on great studio recordings and you never notice any gating even though the gating is fairly generous.
