OVERDRIVE- WAY HUGE Smalls Red Llamas MK III ___NEW ____ sort of, after 30 years?

WAY HUGE SMALLS RED LLAMA OVERDRIVE Mk III
$150.00 USD
The company was started by Jeorge Tripps in 1983  one of the very first of the gourmet makers. He then went onto Line 6 to design for them and finally MXR bought out Way Huge but also hired him and put him head of design of all of Dunlops pedals. So the new one is also a Jeorge Tripps design, LOL The guy just won't go away, LOL.
The first ones in the really big box came out in Dec '94 was the first of a really convincing Blues, Hard Rock Drive that every guy playing in a club thru a combo of any make could get a nice earthy sound. I would not call it transparent but it did not overwhelm and homogenized your tone either. Some critics see it as the first of the Tweed-in-Box pedals. Which I can not help but agree with. Mind you pushed hard it can become very Fuzz like where it really is not in it's comfort zone. So be aware.
When a pedal that clones an amp is done as accurately as possible it can be indeed killer close. The problem is it can end up being what photograph is to real life, something static. A pedal that just wants to capture the vibe of the amp can be like painting with a life of it's own.
CONCLUSION
Lately there have been a lot of new Tweed/Black Face Fenders etc.but the best only really sound good thru the right amp otherwise they sound mediocre. But with the Llama it always gave you that vibe thru any without either the disappointment and it's half the price or even less. But as I warned don't dime it. My main point is a few Tweed-in- Box get a 9 out of 10 for catching the sound. The "llama' gets an 8 for how close but a 10 for it's sound.
