Early digital tech certainly could not create the refined crystal clear detail of the current chips but it had very organic quality due in no small part to the very excellent digital to analog converters. 

In many ways it is the best of digital with the best of analog in one sound. You get the warmth of all analog minus any mud and the clarity of digital but not the unnatural glassy even metallic like and often thin sound.

It has a very old school tape delay type vibe with the popular modulation control to mimic the wow and flutter of tape. It has the standard controls including those for timing and the usual tap function. 

CONCLUSION

It is pleasant change from the endless delays with a dozen features to create yet more ambient sounds.

99% of any style of music we fill our days listening to has zero ambient delay or reverb. The odd time it is used it is done so  like salt and pepper on a meal. Very sparingly.
