BOOST- NUX Lacerate Boost... 7 years old & still selling ...Why? :-)

NUX
LACERATE  FET BOOST
Is this meant to be a clean boost? A just make it louder pedal, lol. No one wacks out $70 for that! The fact is ALL boosts cause some distortion. In something with this little we politely call it coloration. In this case we get FET OpAmp to do the job. FET transistors operate like a tube and sound very similar. The better OpAmps have a lot of headroom but too much and the FET will not distort and sound tube-ish. Too little and the harmonic detail will be smeared. Bafflegab for muddy, lol.
Any more than 20dB of boost and you are into low gain OD territory.
This will push 35dB if you hold down the footswitch a moment to bring
it into OD-land. This pedal has a charge pump so it boosts a 9v adapter up to 18v for better headroom.
            CONCLUSION __
The pedal is designed to allow it to be as transparent as it gets. It is like like a tank
of air used at the hospital for those with respiratory problems. I prefer helium, I want
my balloon to soar. For this job I use a Caline Pure Sky. A very accurate clone of the
Version 1 Timmy. The V.1 had the lowest gain. So not pushed you get dead clean but
with a lot of harmonic sparkle and a hint of compression that evens out the whole
sound. There are many Boosts or OD's used for boost. All do it with different
colorations or even a tad of gain/dirt. There is no ...one size fits all.
