MODELER- VALETON GP-5___NEW___ calling this a Game Changer is NOT click bate

VALETON GP-5
$100.00 USD
The unit uses Neural Amp Modelling, or NAM. Invented by Steve Atkinson
and he deliberately did not patent it.
He wanted it to be a free and open source. in fact the blueprints can be freely downloaded online if you want to make your own pedal. Steve wanted it so players would have access to great sounds for little money. It captures amps effects & IR's in an entirely different way that is seamless. The sounds are very, very, very detailed.
Think of normal Capture modeling as gluing together thousands of pieces of colored sand to make a picture. NAM is simply a single giant piece of solid seamless impermeable titanium!!!
__ Stereo out. 50 sounds and 20 IR cabs. 50 places to store your own sounds.

   CONCLUSION ___
The only problem is with NAM if you do not like the
sonic picture you have to make a new picture.
BUT? Most of us do NOT do our own Captures
we buy them done by others so it is hardly a big
deal. Add to that trading or getting free amp
captures is a given with any modeling gear.

  1. Leo Gibson posted a scientific analysis of the different modeling systems using a "null-set" phase inverted test. Essentially, he compared a recording directly from an amp, to the same recording made with the modeler, and whatever leftover artifacts exist after playing them together phase inverted are measured in LUFS. The NAM modeler came out ahead of Kemper, Neural, Tonex and all other modeling systems.

  2. THANX for the input. The GP-5 has its limits. Some NAM samples are too big to download into the unit. Others are recorded at a higher sampling rate so without it they would sound muddy. Those that sell the sounds work within this and sound killer on it. Those same sounds in a better Modeler will not sound better or worse and could even be a players favorite sounds of the guy with the pricy unit with better specs. So better specs do not always mean better sounds but a wider amount of sounds that can be made. In otherwards a complex modulation Reverb sound may not be possible with the GP-5. Basic classic amp sounds from amps before 2000 will all sound killer. So will be all the classic modulation pedals. In short this could capture the perfect Plexi, Dual/Rec 5150 and even a Dumble sound.

  3. We may never get to find out. We saw the vids of the Valeton GP-5 at NAMM. Andertons put up vids AND had a webpage announcing that it would soon be available. Then, rather suddenly, I'v heard rumblings that Steven Atkinson is going corporate and ending NAM's open source status. And NOW Anderton's wb page for the GP-5 is returning a 404 error.

I wonder if Steve hit the brakes to keep the Chinese from cashing in on his
baby? I certainly understand if that's the case but I was REALLY looking forward to an affordable, compact NAM player pedal.

    1. I know Steve offline - I'll actually be seeing him this Sunday, March 16 - and I can guarantee you that this isn't the case. Several companies offered to pay Steve to close his source code and then license it to them, and several others also offered to buy it outright. He told them all to pound sand, and that he made his project open source as part of his vision for what he wants NAM to ultimately be. Steve is a software engineer and makes enough to afford a fancy high rise apartment in a major city here in the Puget Sound region. Look at his blog posts with pictures and YouTube videos. He has money for fancy cars and still drives a used car. He's not ego driven like that. Steve already has money, and also has principles that he is rigidly adherent to - his morals and character are not for sale. He wants his baby to grow and flourish, with or without him, more like a parent of a living person, as opposed to a possessive pet owner who views their pet as an object . This is a rumor, and one that is patiently false.

  4. Wow! So that's what's going on. Been trying to get hold of one of these all weekend. Emailed Valeton 3 days ago and again today trying to figure out why they're not even on their website. No response still. Saw the 404 error as well when I clicked on that link to Anderton's. Don't plan on dumping my DimeHead any time soon but I had to move over to NAM because I just couldn't get the high gain out of the Tonex One pedals. I need 2 of them and even then it's not quite as ferocious as what I'm getting out of the (1) DimeHead pedal and I spent months at it. Got the Dimehead and got what I was after in less than 5 minutes with free NAMS as opposed to having to purchase a couple of Metal packs for the Tonex and still couldn't quite get what I was after. Don't get me wrong, the Tonex sound fantastic. But I'm a gainoholic lolol and just can't seem to get what I wanted out of them. And now all this news about the NAM possibly no longer being open source? First I've heard of that! Dang 😖

  5. Must just be a rumor. Steve said nam would stay open source just recently in the FB nam group? Where is the proof he's doing this then?

  6. Steve is not removing the open-source vision he has. That rumour is false.

  7. Awesome! That's what it kind of sounded like. Great to know! Btw, I got hold of the guys at Anderton's and they said the GP-5 is expected to come out this June :)

  8. Well I decided to pay a little more and check out the Sonulab StompStation after emailing Valeton TWO times at both "Sales" and "Info" and was utterly ignored. Anderton's responded in ONE day! Don't know why they provide contact info if they're just going to ignore you. Was curious on the Sonulab gizmo anyway. Who knows. Maybe I'll cool down by June and check out the GP-5 too 😅

  9. THANX for all the input everyone has added. The great thing about most players the world over is the only thing they see different with each other no matter where they come from is the color of their Strat. 😎
Guitarists are one of a very few groups of people that do not think the sun shines out their butt and the remainder of the human race should either be exterminated or their personal slaves. I never thought the day would come when this was not an emotional reaction but a hard fact.
