HARLEY BENTON
GPA-100 AMPLIFIER
|
$100.00 USD |
A pedalboard size 100 watt Type-D Power Amplifier.
The layout is Volume, Treble, Mids and Bass. The power cable is self contained with a standard detachable power cord.
It puts out 100 watts into 8 ohms. Most cabs are 8 ohms. It will work on 16 ohms but it could cut the volume down considerable. Unfortunately it is 220v so it is great in Europe but can not be run on a 120v American circuit.
It is just a power amp so it needs a Preamp to
interface with a guitar.
CONCLUSION ___
Ideal for a modeler as its output is coming from it's preamp.
A lot of pedals will work, including boosters and EQ's. In short
it could be an ideal pedalboard amp for small bucks.
A very good idea but it should be offered as a 120v model as well.
As for the sound do not expect anything more than neutral.
It is a Type D after all. In short unlike an A/B amp it will not have
any balz. At best it will put out the kind of dB one gets from
an average 30 watt budget combo amp.

HARLEY BENTON GPA 400 It is a rack mount stereo amp but can be bridged into mono
for 200 watts into 8 ohms. It is in my book minimum power
for the job.
ART SLA-2
|
$450.00 USD |
If you decide on this with all its extra bulk etc than get serious and buy the ART SLA-2. 200 watts a side into 8 ohms, or 560 watts mono. Yes its $450.00 USD but it is a serious studio quality unit.
It has been around for years with a track record for reliability.
My bass player has used one for years with zero issues.
