A King of Tone without a waiting list. LOL
Wampler says it is an updated version of the old Marshall Blues Breaker
pedal.
Maybe even the KOT started life as one too ...but with a near 2 year waiting list it is not hard to see ol' Brian wanting a few of those sales.
The bottom line is that you can get a pretty close copy of the KOT,
It does however like all Wampler pedals have his that Wampler gloss to the tone. I have a love/hate relationship with that Wampler 'Gloss' it gives you a nice sparkle but takes away from a 'real' amp sound.
Like all Wampler pedals it is well made and the controls have some serious range to them. This has killer bass.
It is a serious choice for those looking at getting a Tube Screamer as it
has some serious bass and nicer mids yet it keeps that transparency,
Why does everyone keep refering to this as a KOT copy? It's essentially a POT copy since we only get one side.
ReplyDeleteI owned a POT and it did not sound as close as this to the good ol' King.
ReplyDeleteThe core circuit of the first KOT has not changed since 2003.The one you know as the KOT has two 2003 circuits in it. One is getting original KOT's in one box. They kept trying two make the pedal give you a boost without spoiling the tone. Every model they brought out with a fancy new boost sucked. By accident they put two on at once. WOW!!!
I would not say that the Pantheon is a POT copy. For starters, the POT and KOT have been A/B'd on YT by several reviewers and they do sound different. The POT is also rumoured to be made in China. Hence, the lower price tag.
ReplyDeleteBrian has said that he has not tried to emulate the KOT exactly - he has put his spin on the circuit.
What he has done - by referencing the beloved KOT in his launch video - caused an uproar in the pedal world this week. Very clever marketing indeed!
What other pedal has created so much attention in recent times?
The POT is made in China.
ReplyDeleteI have over 500 Posts on SBS and every week the Post with the highest hits is the KOT :-)
Second is the UNIVOX SUPER FUZZ ...after reading this is checking out the clones most guys end up on the Ananashead site
to pick up one. I did and I still love it!!! It is cheap too!!!
Even the KOT was once a sleeper!!! New easy to get and no one gave a damn.
So check out the Dawner Prince RED ROX. In a blindfold test it beat out 35 brand name favourite big selling dirt pedals!!!
I recently got one and for a start it eats the Friedman BE-OD alive!!!
A good comparison would be the wampler vs Snouse Black Box 2.
