We have heard it all before. All the boasts they have made a better Rat??? It is like showing me Harley Davidson and saying it is a better bicycle. It may be a better something but not a better Rat.
A Rat is part of a family of pedals called collectively Hardclippers.
In short you use a simple OpAmp to drive clipping diodes, Even
give people a choice. Put in the right one and the distortion will
go past a high gain Overdrive and simply be a Fuzz pedal.
Grobert has specialized on getting not just an aggressive
high gain OD but one with texture breadth and character.
CONCLUSION ___I think the secret sauce is the booster built into this pedal.It adds a Rangemaster Treble booster vibe. All part of a tight punch and a really nice bite. It isn't cheap but it can stand on it's own.
A real ProCo Rat does its best things as either stacking
on another dirt pedal or stacking a dirt pedal on it.
It is $90.00 USD. I found after having a few faux Rats
it really has a distinct 'sound' that makes have the
real deal a must have.
