OVERDRIVE- MXR Distortion III ...15 years old & still under the radar?

MXR| distortion III
$100.00 USD
The original Distortion+ was the fist stab at a pedal with a tube like vibe.
It was followed almost immediately by the DOD 250 Pre, a near dead clone. Much later MXR brought out the Distortion III but it was a big pedal with an AC cord hanging out of it. It was pricey and in a world where pedals were cheap and used batteries it died. Billy Corgan used one as a boost to get his famous massive sound. Past FX just released ...distortiion. A seriously good clone of it. Check my Post.
The MXR III came out 15 years ago with MXR determined to make it a standard size and reasonable price tag. It zeroed in on the big mid honk of the Distortion II but the lows were ignored. The layout is Volume, Tone and Gain.
CONCLUSION ___
On the down side it lacks any sustain. Its girth and resonance
could be ideal for even boosting a very transparent pedal
without smothering that pedals tone. In short I see it as
a 'stacker' put on anything where it can fatten the
sound of any kind of dirt pedal. The price is reasonable.
