a MXR Distortion + and a DOD 250 Pre in one box. The 250 was indeed a hot rodded MXR when it came out.
It is in short a basic hardclipper distortion in as basic a form as it gets. The kind of pedal that canact as a basic near low gain boost to a raw heading to a Rat sound and all in between. Staked on prettier OD it can give them a kick or stacking a Fuzz on it will tighten up the Fuzz and give it a very nice focus.
The layout is volume, gain and weight that controls both lows and saturation/compression. A switch gives you more bite and highs.
CONCLUSION
The company is brilliant at fixing the tone to stay in a sweet spot. They always deliver a good sound without needless extras that are mostly unusable. It keeps the price down. Competitors with new pedals are now $200 to $250 these days.
COMPARISON
Not really hearing anything all that interesting here. Maybe a reason it was discontinued?
ReplyDeleteThere is always a guy that wants a DOD 250 pre. The new company CorTek has just started shipping them again but they are shipped out even to the stores that can sell out before anyone knows they are at least technically available. Guys that have them basically use them to boost the crap out of the input on their tube amp. In that context they work well. I use 58 pedals so having every one set at a different level is nuts. I run unity gain so if I use 3 different pedals in one tune I can hit any one knowing it is the same volume.
