By adding just a single tube the tube sound deceived the ear making it sound scary close to an all tube amp.
It became a favourite of up and coming young players into Death Metal
and many found in spite of it being entry level they ended up preferring it's sound. Another big key to its success was it had a quasi parametric mid control which allowed you boost or cut the mids anywhere across its range.
It was the wide range EQ that could make this amp sound like several different amps rather than just one that was merely tweaked.
CONCLUSION
Not surprising to me it sounds great. Shootouts with anything ME makes he never do worse than a draw. Usually the product is cheaper.
Tim Gorjanc is the one man show that runs ME and he literally has state of the art gear and can do high end anything for other builders. In short he can give you the best for a great price because he doesn't have to farm out anything.
