The heart of this is MOSFETS. Often referred to as just a FET.

A FET is a transistor that can be used to emulate a tube. However by adding diodes or simply overloading the 

input it can turn the sound into a Fuzz. In fact so much as 

to head into Tone Bender territory or beyond.

The layout is Volume, Treble, Bass, Gate and Gain. Divide, 

Division and Depth scramble the sound but give you enough 

control to keep musical enough to play a tune or to go into 

Star Wars or Shoegaze city.
