As most of you know Ibanez did not create or make the infamous TS-808.It is a re-brand. Maxon only sold their 808 in Japan and the thousands of Ibanez Guitar dealers/stores had the same
pedal with an Ibanez label on it. The 808 was a huge success. So much so that BOSS stop making the OD-1 and replaced it
with the SD-1 which is simply an 808 but with clipping diodes that gave it asymmetrical distortion. Ironically 10
years ago Maxon eventually added the 808x which is
basically a BOSS SD-1, LOL. 😇.CONCLUSION ___
Like all these offsprings of the original 808 they tend to give you a 'bit' more gain, presence and punch. Unlike clones they do not throw out the baby with the bath water but are careful not to lose their underlying 808
sound. It is why they are still relevant. In short I find
sometimes this works for me, and sometimes it
doesn't. I prefer both, lol. On a final note I am always
impressed when a dirt pedal keeps a Strats bell tone
chime without losing any sustain.
