MMK ELECTRICS
PAVLOF FUZZ ||
Model 1 starts with a basic silicon Fuzz Face but uses NOS old FAIRCHILD 2N2222A transistors. Model 2 uses a Darlington Electra circuit. All other features are the same. They have a clean OpAmp that gives the pedal a stronger overall level. A foot switch drops back the output in the same way pulling back on your guitars volume knob does. It adds definition & sparkle. Especially great for the classic lead/rhythm tone traditional approach. The knobs consist of Volume and a Rotary knob
to choose from 4 different preset voices.
CONCLUSION ____
Both have a very rich organic and full sound.
It looks the part in its steel enclosure.
A 'get the job done' kind of pedal.

This or the DOD Chtonic ? It has two 2N2222 transistors ?
ReplyDeleteThe MMK can be dialed into a good substitute for an overdrive pedal. The $150 DOD just doesn't have the poke or bite. The MMK earns its $50 more price. That said I prefer to stay with a Tone Bender Germanium so I got the TOL RED Germanium Fuzz for $130.00 USD. It is the best Fuzz of any kind I have owned. It uses NOS transistors and holds its own against Benders from $400 plus, plus, plus. I find in a heatwave it can get quirky but 95% of the time it does the job.
ReplyDeletePause&effects tone benders are made with NOS parts. What are the differences between the different Tone benders on their website?
ReplyDeleteWith any V.1 you are getting basically a fatter sounding Maestro Fuzz Tone. V.2 it becomes a bit more OD sounding and v.3 is even more OD sounding. There is a V.1.5 that Vox got and also it was cloned with a couple of small changes to make the first Fuzz Face. The problem with the Fuzz&Effects brand is that the only videos are very poorly put together and are badly recorded so they are hard to decipher to compare. I must admit the Vox one really appeals to me. An original Vox was used in part by BOSS to make their Tone Bender.
ReplyDeleteHi Paul, like you, I'm hesitating to take the plunge. It says that it's a Germanium Vox Tone Bender V828 and that there are different options for the transistors...
