MOSKY AUDIO| TRANSPARENT OVERDRIVE
Yes you get 2 Timmy's both v.1 and v.2 and and the Jan Ray take of a Timmy. As always with this series you get a 4th voice dreamed up with
I suspect combining bits of both parts that make the other voices. The layout is a basic Volume, Treble and Bass and a rotary switch
to choose your sound.CONCLUSION ___Mosky never fails to at minimum put you in the ballpark and if you do not own any of these 3 separate pedals than you can not know which shade of grey you like. For the record the super popular Greer Lightspeed is literally a Timmy with just 2 parts moved up a notch in value to make it a shade hotter. The bottom line is you are highly probable to find a Timmy sound you like and damn cheap too.
Old guy from Aurora here. I just found your site...don't remember how lol. It's fantastic! I have the Caline Pure Sky which I'm told is Timmy clone. Is this true?
ReplyDeleteOddly enough you are both right and wrong. It is a Jan Ray clone, a Timmy once removed. They all started life as a Tube Screamer in that they are mods from the ts topology. It includes the Boss SD-1 that with a couple of of diodes, a soldering iron and 10 minute's of time can be converted back into a ts. The only pedals that are in this loosely described as transparent OD's group that are not a ts is the Marshall Bluesbreakers. Just like the ts every day someone mods one and renames it The King of Tone or whatever, LOL. But even it like the ts starts with an OpAmp not individual transistors. I once figured it out years ago that there are I believe about 7 different dirt pedal topography's and all else is basically recycled. That said OpAmps and FET pedals reign supreme. Other things work but not better and nobody is trying to make new parts for analog technology. The world is now 99.9% digital for sound reproduction or creation of any kind.
ReplyDeleteFortunately the human ear can decipher 100 time more detail and difference that the human eye. What you hear is what you hear. What you see could be something entirely different than your perception of it. So the good news is just change a part or two and you will hear next years miracle pedal. Great fun ;-) I still get excited over the next dirt box and I should know better.
Hi Paul, thanks for the response! It just so happens I have DemonFX King of Drive and just picked up the Mosky Silver Horse. I definitely like both the Pure Sky and KOD and I've still got to give the Mosky a shot. I just found your blog and really I'm really enjoying it. I'm not a pedal collector but it's definitely interesting getting your take on all the ones you've tried.
