An SD-1 is a TS-9 Tube Screamer with a very small mod. Brian Wampler did a show where he converted the Boss back into a Tube Screamer in less than 10 minutes as I watched and he explained the difference. I bought the MXR on the day it landed at the store and traded my Big Muff. I liked the sound but was disappointed that compared to the Fuzz it was very thin. I had it stolen but was not using it at the time so I did not replace it. I have an SD-1 but I don't have it on my board. I like its definition at lower settings but the OD-3 has better definition and bit balz in the low end. I do not have the OD-3. The only really old pedal I regret selling is the E-H Rams Head Muff ...I just ordered the Biyang FZ-7 Fuzz it even comes in the same style of casing. At only $45.00 USD it is worth a shot. :-)
My first dirty pedal was Boss DS-1, traded it for a OD-1!!! Later I have moved to TS-9, before I discovered MXR D+. I played for a long while only 3 pedals, a TS-9, a FL-9 and a Colorsound Wah, in front of the amp and nothing more. The Colorsound Wah was my "treble-booster-notch-filter" engaged and left at lower position for solos. I had no idea at the time about boosters and stacking drives, etc.
OD-3 is the best of the bunch. It’s a mix of BD2 and either the Od2 or sd2 I can’t remember. You could call it the BD-3 but it does have more gain on tap in the beginning.
OD1 best boss od sounding ever. SD1 = tone knob. The arch-enemies (or half brothers?): Boss OD1 x MXR D+. They can do all you need.
