OVERDRIVE- BLACK CAT OD-1 ...a killer hard clipper from 1983 ..still made still selling!!!

 BLACK CAT OD-1
$150.00 USD
It came out in '83 as the Freddie Fuzz designed by the company founder Fred Bonte. it is based around the OP275 OpAmp. It was the 70's fave that spawned the MXR Distortion. the DOD 250 and many others at that time. An Op-Amp provides a lot of clean gain with a hint of character depending on the make and model. All go from the OpAmp to clipping diodes of which there are numerous kinds, makes and models. In short these are what make one pedal quite different than another. Critics love to say one thing is a copy of another. To a degree it is true but your ears can not be as fooled as easy our eye:-)
CONCLUSION
Well it sounds good to me. It is NOT a Marshall Amp-in-a-Box and is not trying to be. It is a good medium gain OD with good touch sensitivity.
Great for Blues based music or for a modern heavy
dirt user it is perfect for songs or even parts of tunes that need you to back off! Or in other cases
use it as boost stacked on another OD to remove
the back wall of a club :-)
