FRACTAL AUDIO AXE-FX & KEMPER PROFILER
Both modellers are approached differently. Keep in mind I am deliberately over simplifying so anyone can get a handle on the philosophy of these different approaches.
The Axe is primarily about fixed sounds and tweaking where as the Kemper is focussed on primarily on Amps and you can create your own models. Both allow downloading of new factory ot 3rd party sounds. The Kemper was designed to resist redundancy by giving you firmware updates that access parts of your Kemper that has never been used ever but the hardware has been there since the first Kemper was ever made. The Axe does major updates by every few years making a new version. The Kemper is designed to be intuitive to use above all else and the Axe is heavily into deep diving. The Axe is generally thought to have an edge mainly because it can rethink and make an entirely new model and use the latest chips.
The Kempers just plain sound great in much the way a 1954 designed Strat still sounds great.
There are numerous other companies but there is only one Kemper that covers all the bases and still creates stellar sounds. Most makers are making dumbed down Axe FX units. They compromise to meet a price point. All but the Kemper lose their value as they all discontinue todays model for tomorrows.
Studio's tend to prefer the Axe ...players these days go both ways but often the goal is the studio so there can be pressure to choose it. The Kemper has a much shorter learning curve the axe can be a S.O.B.
