SONULAB Stomp Station
This pedal uses NAM modeling It may be misleading but I put this in the category of Profiling which in effect is a digital snapshot of
an amp set to specific sound. Modeling creates the sound based on components of the amp just like a house uses and mortar to build its walls. NAM captures a real amp in a Profile but it samples its whole range of sound. It's major handicap is it can not be modified. What you get is it. You can EQ it but only like you would do on an external studio board. In short the sound itself is unchanged. If you like what you hear it will be as close to perfect as perfect gets.
It will not miss or misshape the tiniest thing. It does not have what I think of as digital mud a kind of smearing of some of the harmonic details and overtones. It also has near zero lag time.
It appears it will have an IR loader, an EQ, Compressor, Reverb
Noise gate and Tuner with software for both phones & Computers.
CONCLUSION___
It is a wait and see. I suspect it will show up at
the January NAMM show.

THANX for the heads up but I did a review of it last May. But my one million plus visitors come here as I have anything new announced here first. Not just the established brands. It is not untasal anywhere on the planet to find something new here the minute you wake op and get ou of bed. So if Dimehead has NEWS please send ASAP at any time.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely are always first!! That’s why I always come here to get the scoop on the new stuff. Love your page!!
DeleteThe question for me on this is what the price will be. The dime head while very cool is a bit pricy IMO. I would like to see more simplified versions of NAM players being more affordable. Hopefully this one is a more scaled down affordable version of the dime head. I have tonex one which is really cool, but I’ve liked NAMs captures a little more than the Tonex captures, so something affordable to use with NAM would be the best of both worlds 🤞🤞
ReplyDeleteI almost got this tonight. But from what I understand it cannot take straight NAM files? But they have to be converted? I didn't quite understand the explanation on all that but that's what it sounds like so decided to just wait for the Valeton GP-5 to come out seeing it's just for a backup for my DimeHead. And WAY cheaper. Thanks for posting more the info on this pedal though :)
ReplyDeleteI ended up getting the Stomp Station. It's very small and compact and very well built. But it's been a headache so far and I've spent an entire evening just trying to figure out how to load a couple of NAM files in and the one I really wanted just won't show up no matter how many times I try. I wouldn't care as I figure eventually once I figure it all out it won't be so confusing and time consuming. But what is really concerning besides the hassle of navigating around with the one dial/knob without using the app on the cell phone is that the EXACT same NAM files I load in to this unit sound entirely different than they do in my Dimehead Player. I cannot get that nice crisp tight high gain crunch with the Stomp Station that I do out of the Dimnehead Player :( The YT videos it sounded amazing but I'm playing through a real rig power amp & cab, not a computer
ReplyDeleteI'm off to a bad start and the item and company are so new the "Return" link on their website does nothing so I might end up selling on Reverb. Very bummed out. Hopefully the Valeton GP-5 is more accurate with the NAM file sounds and less of a hassle loading them in and navigating around but I can get around that part of it if it sounds great as I only need one preset anyway but it does help :)
Okay, regarding the Stomp Station pedal, I should have chosen a nickname to save confusion seeing there are so many Anonymouses already lol I am the one who posted saying first I almost got it, and then I got it and mentioned how things were off to a bad start. Well After loading dozens of nam files in (high gain) and all of them sounding tinny, fizzy, and harsh no matter how much tweaking I did, I was ready to throw the towel in.
ReplyDeleteAnd then one last thing came to mind. When it arrived the volume was on 100%. So I figured what the heck, may as well play around with that before I pack it up. And holy !@#$%! Wow!! This thing sounds absolutely amazing!! I'm still madly in love with my Dimehead but I have this on a super small pedal board for a backup and for easy travel seeing I play with two different bands/projects. Worth every penny! It is a real pain navigating through things on a cell phone.
Fortunately I discovered you CAN use the software on a PC too! Don't even need to power it on to do any editing. Just connect it via USB (or Bluetooth) and you're good to go. I haven't figured out the WiFi yet or how to connect that way but don't need to anyway. So, just felt I had to set the record straight
