The original EH Electric Mistress is a classic Flanger. It uses a very creative circuit that is very difficult to duplicate and near impossible to improve without destroying the sound. The most notable player to use one is Andy Summers who used it on many big hit recordings in such away as it became a very big part of the appeal of these tunes. Of course Dave Gimour had one but he had one of everything :-)

Flangers by MXR, Boss. Ibanez etc. all use instead a commonly based circuit that can indeed be altered and improved on so since they too are loved by many it becomes a nobrainer if you are a new company to NOT use the EH and use the easier to deal with circuit. So EH clones are both rare and pricey. Most have totally failed and were discontinued.

The most successful of the clones has been the Canadian company Electro Sonic who make an EH they simply call Flanger :-) It is so close that those with the original use them to keep it safe at home.

Neither have access to the original chip though they use similar NOS chips from the era. 

Oddly enough the E. Mattress comes from Australia.

CONCLUSION 

It does indeed sound very good. Like the Retro Sonic comparisons at this level are very difficult though I prefer the Retro Sonic. You must however balance that with fact I own one, lol. At $200.00 USD price is not an issue 

for your choice. The sound of both are killer. Both are easy to use to get all your expected sounds yet both can give you the best of the Scfi things too.
