This is in essence a v.2 of the Idiotbox Powerboost which is a faithful repro
of the old Colorsound Power Boost.
The original 1968 Colorsound was a simple boost pedal but the v.2 had a master volume which in a way made it the very first OD. The v.2 was the big seller. Any circuit will distort even a consumer radio if cranked. It can be nasty but tube amps sweeten the sound enough to take away any ice pick sounds.
The layout is Gain, Volume, Treble and Bass with a voltage knob to change the BIAS for more grainy dirt or turn it back had for gated Fuzz like spit and sputter. It also use a charge pump so when you plug in a 9v adapter but you get 18v running the pedal.

Are their better Colorsound Power Boost clones? PastFX does
Power Booster that sounds more authentic to the Colorsound.
The Idiotbox has it's own thing going on with the BIAS
and Fuzz. It really is excellent. One of each would be nice,lol.
These are getting popular. A Sunn Model T amp-in-a- Box. The Doom and Stoner and Death Metal guys put the amp on the map when they created these genres. It was all about getting a loud cheap bass heavy amp. The standard deal was to push them with a ProCo Rat II pedal. So because of this many of the pedals build a Rat substitute into the circuit as a boost.
The layout is Volume, Gain and Tone with a toggle for Mode another for EQ. Both are used to change voicings without killing the heavy lows or the biting highs.

There is less than nothing new now we hit the start of the Xmas holiday
season. I decided to check on companies from years back. Some have indeed vanished but a few are still around. Likely one man outfits that the guy has a steady and probably mostly regional market that he can sell all he makes.
In the last century this was common place. Even a few classics might have only been sold in the LA area or NYC etc.
Keith Aviles is that one guy at MHP. He makes 5 dirt pedals and does mods like Josh Scott of JHS did years & years ago.

This pedal came out 15 years ago. A time when all but a tiny niche were thinking to try for a Amp-in-Box like the many MIAB etc. we have now.
This pedal is pleasant sounding low to medium gain that will give you an old black faced Fender amp cranked sound. These days we would call it transparent. It is perhaps even more natural sounding than a ts or Timmy etc.That may be why it is not a 'gotta have' as it could easily pass as a guynot even using a pedal. Even a Timmy has a 'sound' it is notdead neutral like this. Very impressive understated sound.
This is a clone of the Mosrite Fuzz Rite v.3 pedal made famous by the 1962 Ventures hit the 2000 Pound Bee. Then of course Iron Butterfly used it on something, but I just can't remember what, lol.
It was available and cheap that it got in the hands of kids in suburbia who formed bands with school friends and out of this came that term Garage Band and this was the 'Sound' of the Garage Band.
This was a very early Fuzz coming out just 2 years after the Maestro Fuzz Tone.
It is no way a clone. It was made originally knowing that basic circuit but simply using parts at hand in the Mosrite shop. There were 3 versions very close together. All were sold knowing the first two would easily shut down or even breakdown, lol. This one grabs the vibe and best of all is much cheaper than any others that have come along.

At the time this came out when a Fuzz was not cool.
The better players felt it was a cover up for young players that had no talent. I can remember being ridiculed by older players. This was all pre computers and even what few magazines were out leaned towards Jazz Players with fullsize arch tops. But today a guy that shreds and could blow those guysback then out of the water can get a damn good sound fromthis pedal.It isn't pretty or has any serious dynamics. It is crude, angryand indeed fat. Larry DiMarzio loved the ProCo Rat so when he had a short lived pedal company between 86/87 he made an OD that was the sound of a Rat going through a Stack. It was called the Very Metal.
98 AUDIO has resurrected that pedal.

It is cool but niche. You it buy for fun or maybe
you are in a cover band doing a Hair Metal tribute thing.
To get straight to the point it is the Kemper approach to attack those thinking Line6 XH Stomp or to get a few of the Tonex guys to feel that having a few effects and 10 years of the entire library of the Kemper sounds is an easy way to get all you can possibly need.

The key point is it well made and aimed at the guy with a pedal board with his 'can't live without' and can either go outright modeler approach or even go hybrid with looks and feels like he still has a guitar amp using powered cabs. The Kemper offerings are designed
even to 'feel' and respond like a real tube amp.
A lot of guys thinking of keeping it simple might find getting this over the UA pedals. They can keep it simple or go further in the future with it. It interfaces with Laptops or Smart Phones etc. So an initial set up for the average player is not a heavy learning curve. Add to that you have 10 years of users with hundreds willing to help with quick and bullet proof work arounds to any situation.
Yes Movall are all about clones. The good news is when they miss hitting the bullseye you usually get a great pedal for a great price so you don't care. Their Plexi pedal does not sound like a Plexi. It does however do a very good impression of a JMP800 so I bought one with no regrets.
This is their take on a Electo-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man. I do not know which one, for a start E-H offer 4 different ones, lol.
CONCLUSION __
This pedal is defiantly in the ballpark with an E-H. Unfortunately everyone who demos the E-H product is convinced 99% of the demo needs to show you what you can do with it for your next big contract to do a Star Wars movie when 99% of us may want to hear how it sounds playing a few, or even any of the
ordinary tunes we learnt to play the f.-ing guitar
for in the first place.
The E-H is $215.00 USD.(nearly 7 times more)

After hours of pizzing around I recalled the E-H was meant to be a EchoPlex in a box for all the obvious reasons.So I tuned it to match my Dunlop EchoPlex. Bingo!!! I all but perfectly nailed it. The Movall is a keeper!!!!!

The entire board is totally finished with all its parts and the cases are finished too, in China.
They are sent to NYC USA where the ladies screw them intotheir enclosures, pop on the knobs,
test that they work and put them in a cardboard box that says ...

ProCo only made a couple of hundred of the coveted Rats with a LM308 OpAmp chip. At one time there were a lot of the small shops making one
but the fashion for a long time now is to make some kind of super Rat. Many have turn them into an average every day OD others have pushed them into a Fuzz. Some guys even know I expect would be happier with an original circuit Rat. BMF comes to the rescue. The layout is like all Rats. Volume Tone/filter and Gain.
CONCLUSION___
Most of us that heard a Rat on a recording and loved it were listening to the Rat II.
There are thousands of them made not just the handful from
a few years. The Rat II has more bite and balz. If it's Metal
and it is a Rat it is a Rat II. I own an old LM308 but it sits
A relatively new company from Helsinki Finland that to no surprise love a great Doom like Metal Fuzz. The layout is an 8 knob monsterpiece of fine tuning. You do get Volume and Gain. Drift sets the speed and accuracy of the Drift effect, Depth lets you set the lows in the drift effect, Amok/Drone lets you choose between 2 Drift effects, The Sens controls input levels from different PU's. Kill instantly murders the designer for designing such a complex monster. Did you take that all in??? Then just listen to the damn thing and decide from there.

Might I suggest Earthquaker Devices Acapulco Gold $145.00 USD ...a SUNN Model T -amp-in-a-Box,
pushed by a Biyang FZ-7 Fuzz ...a NYC Muff clone $45.00 USD
This pedal slipped in under the radar. It it is an odd idea that captures the sound one might identify with bar band doing Blues cover tunes in local bar with the guitarist using an old Fuzz pedal pushed into his battered up old slightly underpowered old Fender combo amp. In short you get an amp/Fuzz like combination.
You get a lot to work with. If you want headroom you can run at 18 volts. You get full EQ with Treble, mids and Bass. It has a Weight control which punches up the lows.
CONCLUSION ___
Well there is nothing else quite like it except perhaps a Rat which it isn't. I am not sure who it fits other than an Indie Alt guy looking for something to call his 'Own Sound'. The overall effect is very old school like an old discontinued Way Huge dirt pedal back when a hobbyist DIY guy found he could sell a few pedals. But come to think of it we got the Rat from guys that did this.
The price is right and the quality build is a given. Maybe something is going on here?
