A QUICK COMPARISON- MXR Analog Delay vs. BOSS Digital Delay

 DIFFERENT BUT NOT BETTER
The difference is best explained visually.

Think of your guitar signal/sound as a 3 foot wide piece of glass.
Analog is that same size of glass but tinted a bit dark. It is continuous
but colored.
Digital is that same size of glass but made of 3 pieces noticeably
glued together. It is identical to the clear glass but not continuous
so it uses a bit of analog glue.

APPLICATION
Analog tends to sound like a silhouette or shadow of your guitar sound. It seldom
competes with your guitar for the listener's attention. It is fatter sounding too.
Digital sounds like a twin, not an identical twin but a twin. Analog acts more as a
frame with your guitar being the picture. Digital tends to compete with the guitar
for attention. It works best when the 2 sounds are meant to be equally sharing
the listeners attention.
Neither is better and having both is justifiable.
