OVERDRIVE- NUX Plexi Crunch ...a Plexi-in-a-Box ? ....superb ...$50

 NUX PLEXI CRUNCH
$50.00 USD

This is part of the Re-issue series of OD's that first came out in 2010.
It is well named. A real vintage Plexi even dimed does not have a really high gain sustain. In those days you got that from your Tone Bender Fuzz. Often a player used a Rangemaster treble booster that would give a honk in the upper mids as well.
Nux have always  made reliable well made pedals.
Cheaper pedals often do not give you detail in the tone because they do not use high end German, American or Japanese parts. The main thing is to listen carefully because sometimes going for a key part here or there makes a big difference.
CONCLUSION
What I do hear is a surprisingly solid Plexi sound.
Do not confuse that with a JCM 800 shredders sound.
If it gives me that Marshall Super Lead with it's volume on 8 ...I will be ecstatic!
So WTF at this price I will order one.

HANDS ON
I got it. Simply total killer!!!!

UPDATE
APRIL 20/2022
I have had the NUX for year and half.  It is long enough for the novelty to wear off. It is long enough to even get board with some pedals even if by then you like them but get that itch there is better out there. I own 11 other MIAB pedals. They are all the 'best of' as I have sold as many that weren't that good. Bottom line ...this pedal is great ...as good as all the others that cost as much as 6 times the money.
The problem is the price almost makes you doubt you ears!
You shouldn't.

NOTE: Marvel FX ?  Tim Krueger a one man operation
 unfortunately died July 2, 2022

  1. Paul this is great and the price is right. Some videos have shown that you can't go above 12 on the gain as it gets overly saturated. Can we get tour thoughts on the NUX Steel Singer next?

  2. I will if you wish. I can not find an original so first I suspected it is not a reissue secondly it looks exactly like the Vertex Steel Steel String pedal that has been out 4 years. I got one when it came out. I kept it for 2 years then sold it .I do not recommend the Vertex. Both these pedals are taken from a small transistor booster built into the Steel String Singer Dumble. This is not the one of the 2 schematics that Dumble bases all the Dumbles on. In short when pedal guys think 'Dumble'it is not this tone they are thinking of but of the Overdrive Special. This the sound of a Fender Deluxe with a extra bright bright switch. It sounds good on several old tube based Fenders but on anything else it does not at all.It is not that creamy black faced Fender sound with extra drive and articulation that Dumble calls the Overdrive Special.Vertex also make an Overdrive Special pedal and it sounds pretty good. But not cheap!!!

  3. Turns out this one is a reboxed version of the Nux High gain distortion/Twinote Pi Fuzz. I have them all and they all sound pretty much the same. Wampler pinnacle clones. The hgd actually sounds a little bit better than the plexi m, a little thicker and richer but more or less they are the same.

  4. Just picked this up. It is meaty and a super good value. The tone control seems to be a bit different than most pedals. it's more of a midrange control and it's voiced just right. I like
